Hope Fertility & IVF Malta Laboratory Achieves CAP Accreditation
HOPE Fertility & IVF holds accreditation from the College of American Pathologists — the world's most rigorous standard for laboratory quality and patient safety.
What Is CAP Accreditation?
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the world's largest organisation of board-certified pathologists and the globally recognised leader in laboratory quality assurance. Founded in 1946, the CAP has set the benchmark for laboratory excellence for over 75 years.
CAP accreditation is a voluntary programme that goes far beyond standard regulatory requirements. Through rigorous on-site inspections by practising laboratory professionals every two years, the CAP evaluates every aspect of laboratory operations — from the competency of personnel and the accuracy of procedures, to the safety of specimen handling and the reliability of results.
For IVF and reproductive laboratories specifically, the CAP's Reproductive Laboratory Accreditation Programme — developed in collaboration with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) — covers the full spectrum of embryology, andrology, cryopreservation, and reproductive cell and tissue storage. It is recognised by the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART) and gives laboratories confidence in meeting FDA requirements. HOPE Fertility & IVF is among only three reproductive laboratories in the entire European Union to hold CAP accreditation — placing our clinic alongside the world’s leading fertility centres in the United States and internationally. One of Only Three CAP-Accredited IVF Laboratories in the European Union
Every procedure in our embryology laboratory — from oocyte handling and ICSI to embryo culture and vitrification — follows protocols that meet or exceed the most demanding international benchmarks. CAP requirements are recognised as the most scientifically rigorous in laboratory medicine. CAP accreditation requires fail-safe systems for patient identification, specimen labelling, and gamete/embryo handling to prevent errors. Our laboratory operates under strict protocols that protect the identity and integrity of every sample at every step. All embryologists and laboratory personnel undergo regular competency assessments as required by the CAP programme. This ensures that only qualified, continuously trained professionals are performing your procedures. Our laboratory participates in CAP Proficiency Testing — an international external quality assessment programme that compares our performance against thousands of laboratories worldwide. This continuous benchmarking ensures our results remain accurate and reliable. What This Means for Our Patients
