Christine Schembri Deguara is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and a Specialist in IVF/reproductive medicine and minimal access gynaecology surgery. She has relocated to Malta and works as the Consultant at Hope Fertility Malta.
She is the first Maltese doctor to have specialized in Reproductive Medicine and is trained in minimal access surgery. She is recognised on both European, Maltese and UK specialist registers, after completing a prestigious sub-specialisation training position in Reproductive medicine with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London.
She completed three years of advanced laparoscopic training in central London’s top university hospitals including St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London, University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. Dr. Schembri Deguara has over 15 years of experience in the fields of gynaecology and reproductive Medicine and firmly believes in supporting her patients through the use of scientifically founded technologies to tailor individual plans, maximizing success.
She completed a PhD in fertility at Queen Mary University, an affiliate of the University of London and a Russell 20 University. For this work she was awarded an EU scholarship.
Her work has led to the development of a non-invasive biomarker test for earlier identification and treatment of endometriosis. Her research has also enabled the diagnosis of potential novel therapeutics for this disease, reducing the morbidity of unnecessary surgery
She has worked at Consultant level within the NHS, at the Reproductive Medicine unit in St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and as a private consultant at the Evewell Fertility and Gynaecology clinic in Harley Street.
Dr. Deguara has published various scholarly articles in the field of laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in a number of peer-reviewed journals. She has presented at international meetings, with some of her presentations receiving clinical excellence awards.
